Packing for a water-sports holiday is blissfully simple, especially when the school provides all the technical gear. Here’s the complete KiteTripping packing list for Essaouira.
The essentials
- Swimwear: two sets, so one is always dry
- Sunscreen (SPF 50, water-resistant): the Moroccan sun is stronger than it feels in the wind
- Sunglasses with a strap and a cap or hat
- A windbreaker or light jacket: Essaouira’s famous breeze feels cool in the evening, even in summer
- Flip-flops for the beach and comfy shoes for the medina
- A reusable water bottle
What NOT to bother packing
This is the good news: we provide all the technical equipment.
- Surfboards, kites, wings and foils
- Wetsuits in all sizes
- Helmets, harnesses, leashes and impact vests
Travelling light means easier flights, and you’ll always be riding well-maintained, up-to-date gear matched to the day’s conditions.
Clothing: think layers
Essaouira has a mild climate all year (roughly 18 to 28°C), but the wind makes evenings feel fresh. Locals joke that the town has “four seasons in one day.” Pack:
- T-shirts and shorts for daytime
- One warm layer (hoodie or fleece) for nights
- Long trousers for evenings and exploring the medina
Useful extras
- European plug adapter (Morocco uses type C/E sockets, 220V)
- A small dry bag for phone and valuables at the beach
- Motion-sickness tablets if you plan a surf trip with a drive down the coast
- Cash (Moroccan dirham): cards are widely accepted, but small cafés and souk stalls prefer cash
Documents
- Passport (valid 6+ months)
- Travel insurance that covers water sports (worth checking the fine print for kitesurfing)
- Your booking confirmation from us
The most important thing to bring
